"A Small Initiative For Bigger And Better".
‘Rural Education Promotion Program 2019’ is an initiation of CWI in collaboration with NPO Asia Sanga (Japan), to promote education in rural areas & facilitating community schools and students by providing scholarships and educational materials including computers, laptops, science lab equipments, notebooks, school bags and teaching materials. CWI has primarily targeted to promote and support community schools of Helambu Rural Municipality in Sindhupalchowk district. Melamchi region is considered among the poor communities and during the devastating earthquake of 2015 it was one of the epicenters and witnessed great destruction of lives and infrastructures.
Background
Sindhupalchowk district is located to the eastern part of Kathmandu valley. There are altogether 12 Municipalities and 9 Rural Municipalities in this district. Although the distance from Kathmandu city is approximately 115 km, due to lack of properly build road and highway, it is difficult to access in several places. The district falls under a marginalized area where women and children are vulnerable to trafficking, driven by factors such as poverty, socioeconomic factors, lack of women’s rights, empowerment, gender discrimination and lack of livelihood opportunities. Melamchi and Helambu lying in Sindhupalchowk District are one of the worst-hit regions by the massive destructive earthquake of 2015. The available health facilities in the region were completely damaged by the earthquake. Geological experts came with a finding that these regions are at high risk of landslides after the earthquakes of 2015 made the geological structure of the districts unstable.
CWI has targeted to promote community schools of Helambu Rural Municipality in the first phase. Helambu lies to the North-East part and approximately 80 kms from the district headquarter, Chautara.
